The Mountains are on Fire

It's fire season in Arizona and there are already some really bad ones. Flagstaff has 3 separate fires burning around it and they are evacuating people from the area. 2 of the fires are pretty close to town.



Fire season also ups the work load for Aaron at the Prescott Airport tower. That is where the majority of the fire tankers are based out of in the summer time. He told me last night they have 8 tankers in and out as long as the winds aren't too bad. They were grounded for most of the day yesterday due to the winds, but he expected today to be really, really busy. This will be Aarons' first season fully certified so I imagine there is a certain level of excitement with all of this for him.



What is so heartbreaking is that these fires are caused by man. One guy has already been arrested for leaving hot coals at his camp site, but all it is a misdemeanor charge.




Personally I think they should close the campsites during fire season since it's obvious there are too many jerks that can't follow the rules. Yes, innocent people would also be punished, but it would save our mountains.



So, we just wait for the monsoons to start up and help since they will usually bring rain. They also bring lightening, which can always start up more fires, but they usually aren't as bad as the fires in the early summer months.



Please pray for the safety of the firefighters and hope that they can get these under control sooner rather than later.
