Finally!

It all came down to this week. After 7 months the workman's comp promised us an answer on whether they would cover Brenna's surgery or not by Thursday. Unfortunately, the answer was no. We aren't really surprised that they denied everything, but really? 7 months just to say no?

The bad part is that now they won't be paying her anymore. Thankfully, since it did take so long, she was able to save enough money to cover her monthly expenses for 3-4 months, so she should be fine financially. If her recovery takes longer than that, we might have to help out a bit, but I don't think it will come to that. At least I hope not. Because this took so long, she did loose her job as she exhausted her medical leave. We are going to check into unemployment benefits and see if she is eligible for those. Otherwise, she won't be able to work until she is cleared medically and who knows how long that will be. Hopefully it won't be hard for her to find another job either. She won't be able to work on the floor for at least a year so her hand can heal, so that will make it just that much harder too.

On the bright side, she will be able to have everything that needs to be done in one surgery. If they had agreed to this, she would have had to have two surgeries to repair another issue after she was cleared from workman's comp. Now, they can do it all at once, so that is really good news.

We have already contacted a workman's comp lawyer and sent all of the paperwork to her. She is going to review it all but does think we have a very good case against them. This is important for coverage later in life. Since she will be having a total joint replacement, it's very likely that joint will have to be replaced a few times during Brenna's life time. We want this covered by workman's comp so it's not considered a pre existing condition. That is the reason we have to hire a lawyer. I am sure it will probably take years to get this worked out, but that's okay.

So, the good news is that surgery is scheduled for May 23rd. 3 days after we get home from vacation and the day before Brenna turns 25. Happy Birthday, huh?
