We have been battling Liberty Mutual for 6 weeks now regarding Brenna's hand surgery. After all that time, her case was going before the medical director yesterday for an approval so she could FINALLY have her needed surgery. And what do they do? They ask for more records. Really? Like you couldn't have asked for them weeks earlier? So, once again, her surgery has been postponed.
You have no idea how frustrating all of this is. She can't work because of her hand, but they won't approve her surgery or even her workman's comp so she would at least be getting paid. 6 weeks without a paycheck is starting to hurt as the bank account is now hemorraging. Ron and I are helping her pay her bills and that really isn't an issue. It's the fact that this should have been done at least 4 weeks ago and she should be closer to going back to work. Instead she hasn't even had the surgery!
And here is the cherry on top. She is actually going to have to have TWO hand surgeries. Stupid workman's comp won't allow the doc to do another proceedure on her hand at the same time. Their theory is that they don't want to have to pay for her recovery time for that proceedure. Now I can kind of understand that theory, but that proceedure will have about a 2 week recovery vs the 6-8 week recovery the joint replacement will be. How do they figure they will be paying for her recovery time? Instead, she will have to have a second surgery weeks or maybe even months later and miss more work time. This whole thing is a mess.

Oh man, I'm so sorry. What a huge mess. One of my co-worker's wives has been battling with workman's comp for FOREVER. (She's also a nurse, interestingly.) No one is actually out for the patient in those cases, and it's really sad.
